About Us
The Genealogical Association of Nova Scotia is one of the province’s leading heritage organizations, committed to the collection, research, and dissemination of information on Nova Scotia genealogy, and family and local history. Our offices support a major research library, and several work rooms, and are staffed three days per week. We provide educational programs for our membership, and conduct research in genealogy and local history.
We live-stream our Monthly Lectures, organize a Spring Zoom Conference, host a major Annual Heritage Lecture on the philosophy and practice of genealogy and local history, and put on a number of hands-on workshops each year. We publish a high quality newsletter and research journal, are active in data development and management, and maintain a practice in historical geography and spatial mapping.
The organization is a volunteer charitable organization, governed by a Board of Directors. We serve our membership, currently about 700 strong, consisting of genealogical researchers, historians, and a large body of Nova Scotia enthusiasts.
The Society has worked for this community and contributed to Nova Scotia history for more than 40 years.
